Ministry orders clean up of Mubarak village oil spill

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Maritime Affairs on Friday took notice of the news of an oil spill near Mubarak village.

According to statement, the ministry contacted all concerned including Navy, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Ministry of Petroleum as two trails of “slight oil spillage” were observed close to the beach south east of Cape Monze light house.

“The minor oil spill at Mubarak village beach area is being cleaned. An inquiry is being undertaken to ascertain the nature of the spill to establish the causes and likely source,” reads the statement released by the ministry.

Ministry of Petroleum Division has also confirmed the same.

The statement says that PMSA is coordinating with all relevant stake holders to plug in support for cleanup the spillage.

It is pertinent to note here that Balochistan’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Thursday ordered a petroleum company to halt its operations after the coastal belt became heavily polluted due to an oil spill reportedly from an underground pipeline.

Pictures showing spillage of tar and oil on the entire stretch of the coast from Mubarak Village to Churna Island went viral on social media with people calling for a clean up.
