“A protest march was organised in Malviya Nagar area today. No permission was granted for the said protest,” the DCP said.
The DCP said that protestors tried to block traffic at multiple locations and also in front of an arterial road of a hospital.
There were also reports alleging that the Delhi Police personnel lathi-charged the protesters at Hauz Rani area near Malaviya Nagar. The DCP, however, has said that they will look into the lathicharge allegations.
The senior police officer said many protesters “verbally and physically” abused the police personnel and pushed the female police personnel towards the barricades, “bit them and heckled them”.
“Police personnel on duty showed extreme restraint and perseverance in front of the sustained abuses and ensured highest standards of professionalism,” the DCP said.
He also added that many police personnel, including women officers, were injured and added that suitable action as per law was being taken.
