Airline’s spokesman says it is working with CAA to resolve issue to restore operations quickly in Pakistan and abroad

KARACHI: Serene Air’s management has initiated discussions with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) to address the sudden suspension of its flight operations across the country, the airline said on Saturday.

The PCAA on Friday suspended Serene Air’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC), halting all domestic and international services. According to the authority, the airline no longer meets the mandatory requirements for safe flight operations, adding that all aircraft in its fleet have been declared unfit to fly. The suspension order was formally conveyed to the airline in writing by the PCAA’s Flight Standards Directorate, which also directed Serene Air to return its AOC.

In its official response, Serene Air termed the disruption the result of “unforeseen circumstances” and described it as a short-term pause. “Our flight operations are temporarily suspended due to unforeseen circumstances. This is a short-term pause, and our team is working diligently with authorities to ensure a swift return to service. Your safety, comfort, and trust remain our top priority,” the airline said in a statement, appealing for passengers’ patience.

The airline emphasized that management is fully engaged with the aviation regulator to resolve the matter and restore services without delay. “We look forward to welcoming you back on board very soon,” the statement added, assuring that safety and public trust remain at the core of Serene Air’s operations.

The suspension has caused concern among passengers who rely on the private carrier for domestic travel. The airline also confirmed that one of its aircraft remains grounded in Saudi Arabia following a bird strike incident, leaving passengers stranded. Serene Air has sought permission from the PCAA to bring the plane and its passengers back to Pakistan.

Industry experts say the regulator’s move highlights the importance of strict compliance with safety standards at a time when the aviation sector faces mounting challenges.
