PM Sharif, Iranian President Discuss Regional Tensions
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on Saturday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which the two leaders discussed ongoing regional tensions and efforts to promote peace, Pakistani media reported.
The call, which lasted over an hour, focused on the evolving security situation in the Middle East and diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation, media said.
The prime minister strongly condemned what he described as continued Israeli attacks on Iran, particularly recent strikes targeting civilian infrastructure.
Sharif expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the people of Iran during the difficult period. He also conveyed deep sorrow over the loss of more than 1,900 lives and extended prayers for the deceased as well as for the swift recovery of the injured.
During the conversation, the prime minister briefed the Iranian president on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach. These efforts involve coordination with the United States and brotherly Gulf and Islamic countries to help create a conducive environment for peace negotiations.
He noted that Pakistan supports initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and expressed hope that collective efforts would lead to meaningful progress.
President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s sincere diplomatic engagement and outlined Iran’s position regarding Israeli actions. He emphasized the importance of building trust to facilitate dialogue and mediation, while acknowledging Pakistan’s constructive role in this regard.
Prime Minister Sharif thanked the Iranian president and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region through continued diplomatic efforts.
