Meezan Bank Profit Rises to Rs 48.9bn in 1st Half
KARACHI: Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL), a Pakistan’s leading Islamic bank, has posted a strong financial performance for the first half of 2026, delivering a profit after tax of Rs48.9 billion, compared with Rs46.2 billion in the same period last year.
The company announced cash dividend for the 1st half 2026 of Rs 8 per share, the bank announced.
According to the results issued on PSX website, Meezan Bank’s earnings were supported by continued growth in Islamic financing income, improved fee-based revenues, and a stable core banking performance. The bank’s unaudited condensed interim financial results for the period ended June 30, 2026 said.
The bank’s profit from Islamic financing and related assets reached Rs222.8 billion during the first half of 2026, compared with Rs209.5 billion in the corresponding period of 2025, reflecting continued strength in its financing portfolio.
MEBL also posted significant improvement in other income, which enhanced Rs21.6 billion during the half year, compared with Rs15.9 billion last year. Growth in fee and commission income, along with foreign exchange earnings, contributed to the improvement, the report said.
Despite higher operating expenses due to business expansion and inflationary pressures, the bank maintained profitability. Operating expenses stood at Rs43.2 billion during the first half of 2026 compared with Rs33.6 billion in the same period last year.
The bank reported profit before taxation of Rs102.6 billion, while earnings per share improved to Rs27.15 from Rs25.72 a year earlier.
Analysts said Meezan Bank’s results highlight the resilience of Pakistan’s Islamic banking sector, with the institution continuing to benefit from customer confidence, a growing Shariah-compliant banking network, and diversified income streams.
With a strong balance sheet and consistent profitability, Meezan Bank remains one of the key players driving the expansion of Islamic finance in Pakistan.
MEBL recorded a strong financial performance in the 2nd quarter ended June 30, 2026, posting a profit after taxation of Rs25.5 billion, compared with Rs24.1 billion in the same quarter last year.
The bank’s profit before tax stood at Rs53.6 billion, supported by higher income from Islamic financing activities and improved non-fund income. Earnings per share also improved, with basic EPS rising to Rs14.15 from Rs13.44 in the corresponding period.
During the quarter, Meezan Bank’s income from Islamic financing and related assets increased to Rs117 billion, compared with Rs101.9 billion in the second quarter of 2025.
The bank also reported growth in fee and commission income, foreign exchange earnings, and overall other income, which helped offset higher operating expenses.
Despite increased costs linked to business expansion, Meezan Bank maintained profitability and continued to strengthen its position as a leading Islamic banking institution in Pakistan.
