At least 22 killed, 51 injured in suicide blast at Quetta Railway Station
1 min readKARACHI: According to the reports coming from Queeta, at least twenty-two people were killed and 51 injured on Saturday morning in a blast at Quetta Railway Station, Civil Hospital source said.
“twenty-two people were dead on the spot and more than 51 were got injured, Quetta Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Baloch told reporters.
He stated that the incident seemed to be a ‘suicide blast’ but it would be too early to say, adding that investigation is underway to ascertain the nature of blast.
Early morning, Edhi Rescue Service claimed that a blast heard at a platform inside the railway station and Edhi Ambulances are picking bodies and injured persons.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind, in a statement, stated police and security forces had reached the site of the incident.
Rind said the nature of the blast was being investigated as the Bomb Disposal Squad was collecting evidence from the site and a report had been sought on the incident.
An ‘emergency’ has been imposed in hospitals there, the government official stated, adding that the “injured were being provided with medical aid”.
Footage run by Dawn News of the incident site showed rubble at the railway station’s platform.
At the time of the explosion, Jaffer Express train was ready to depart from the platform for Peshawar.
Police and law enforcing agencies are still investigating the blast.
