Azerbaijan’a passenger plane crash
1 min readA passenger plane has crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan’s Mangistau region, Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry said on December 25.
News reports say the Azerbaijan Airlines plane was en route from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya but was rerouted due to fog in Grozny.
There was no immediate comment from Azerbaijan Airlines.
Reports say at least 67 passengers including five crew members were on board the plane.
Rescue services have arrived at the scene of the crash, the ministry said in a statement.
CNN added that Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said its teams found the aircraft on fire upon arrival at the scene.
“Rescue units began extinguishing the fire. Currently, information about the victims is being clarified, and according to preliminary information, there are survivors,” the ministry said.
Azerbaijan Airlines said flight J2-8243 – using an Embraer 190 aircraft from the Azerbaijani capital Baku to Grozny in the Russian region of Chechnya – made an emergency landing approximately 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from Aktau.
