KARACHI: Denmark Ambassador to Pakistan, Rolf Holmboe, on Monday called on Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Zaidi and discussed with him a number of issues including new foreign investment in Pakistan.

During the meeting, the Ambassador briefed the minister about false allegations made by a website ‘Customs Today’ on Maersk Pakistan and requested him to follow up this matter.

In a meeting, the Ambassador said, “I am very disheartened and very worried to see factually incorrect and defamatory information regarding Maersk Pakistan. The fake news campaign against Maersk is instigated in a sustained appalling campaign by a website and from there it has been picked up by other media outlets.”

The Danish Ambassador informed the minister regarding the falsely claimed that Maersk Pakistan demands illegal detention charges from Importers and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is probing Maersk or that its officials may get arrested soon.

He further briefed the minister that the website falsely claimed that Maersk has threatened media outlets and Pakistani Customs Authorities by falsely linking Maersk to an entirely different case of another company.

Mr Rolf Holmboe said, “these allegations are simply untrue. I am afraid that such fake news and unfounded allegations against Maersk will undermine the confidence of Danish companies as well as investment in Pakistan.”
