Five injured in a blast in Gulistan-i-Jauhar area

KARACHI: At least five people were reportedly serious injured when a blast occurred near Mahfil-e-Milad function organized by Muttehida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area near Perfume Chowk late Saturday night.
Police and Rangers reached the spot and cordoned off the place of incident. In the function, federal minister for IT Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Faisal Sabwari were present on the occasion with hundreds of the MQM-P workers. However, the leaders are safe in the incident, while six people were immediately shifted to nearby hospital, the MQM sources said.
The nature of the blast could not be ascertained but according to initial police report only two people were injured in the incident. Police said they did not know about the Mehfil-e-Milad function of the MQM-P.
According to eye witness, the explosion took place where the MQM-P leaders were sitting.
In the initial report, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Ghulam Azfar Mehsar said that the blast was of a cracker, but the bomb disposal agency is investigating the case.
