Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) limited is planning to introduce Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HHEV) models in the near future

KARACHI: Honda Atlas Motor Company in Pakistan will launch its first Hybrid Electric Vehicle models in the local market, says a company notice at Pakistan Stock Exchange website.  However, the company did not announce any launching time or the date.

In the company’s announcement, it said “Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) limited is planning to introduce Hybrid Electric Vehicle HHEV) models in the near future.” This initiative reflects our continued commitment to innovation, environment sustainability and offering advanced mobility solutions to our valued customers. The introduction of HEV models will mark a significant step forward in our product portfolio and support to growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles in Pakistan.”

However, the Japan’s Honda Motor Company had already announced that it will launch its Elevate-based electric SUV in India and introduce three new models with electric and strong hybrid powertrains. This all-electric SUV, a part of Honda’s ACE (Asian Compact Electric) project, will be manufactured in India and exported to other markets, including Japan.

Market observers anticipate that Honda may opt to locally assemble these forthcoming hybrid vehicles instead of relying on imports. Such a move could encourage broader adoption, as locally produced units typically offer lower price points than fully imported ones.

It could also strengthen Honda’s presence in the country by showcasing its capacity for innovation in manufacturing. Localized production, if undertaken, might ease the burdens of high import duties and foster a more accessible price range for buyers seeking eco-friendly automobiles.

Rising fuel costs and evolving consumer preferences have already nudged other manufacturers to consider greener powertrains. Honda’s latest update fits into this evolving landscape, where hybrid technology attracts those who want improved efficiency without going fully electric.

Although the official filing does not include specific model names, price estimates, or timelines, the disclosure itself is a clear signal of Honda’s near-future direction. With e:HEV systems potentially on the horizon, the local industry and consumers alike can prepare for a new phase in Pakistan’s automotive market.

Many Pakistani companies including Hyundai had already launched its Electric Vehicles. The diversity in offerings suggests that local buyers are no longer limited to a narrow set of choices when it comes to cleaner transportation, the experts said.

The ORA 03 at Rs 9 million was slightly more accessible. Its arrival expanded the pool of choices for buyers who were still exploring which brand could offer them the best long-term value. In terms of performance, it provides a WLTP range of 310 km with a 47-kWh battery and delivers a decent horsepower of 140 and 210 Nm of torque.

MG introduced the MG ZS EV MCE in February 2024, offering two variants designed to cater to a range of preferences and needs. The essence variant, priced at Rs 10,990,000, offers a 320 km range with a battery capacity of 53.3 kWh.
