ICC may ban Sarfraz for three-five one-day international over racist remarks

The match referee for the five-match ODI series between Pakistan and South Africa, Ranjan Madhugalle has sent his report to the International Cricket Council after summoning Sarfraz Ahmed regarding his racist comments against Andile Phehlukwayo.
During the second ODI against the Proteas, Pakistan’s skipper was caught on stump mic saying, “Abey Kaaley, Teri Ammi aaj kahan baithi huieen hain, Hain??? Kya parhwa ke aya hai aaj tu?” (“Hey black [man], where is your mother sitting? What prayer did you get her to say for you today?”)
The next morning, Madhugalle summoned Sarfraz Ahmed in the hotel before leaving Durban, where he accepted his mistake, apologized and felt embarrassed for the words he uttered. He also expressed that he did not intend to say anything racist.
However, the wicketkeeper-batsman’s fate will be decided by the higher authorities of the ICC, which includes the chief executive David Richardson as well.
According to ICC’s code of conduct, Sarfraz Ahmed can be banned for three to five One Day Internationals. Moreover, Cricket South Africa (CSA) also approached the match referee and complained about the incident.
Phehlukwayo’s all-round performance gave South Africa a series-levelling win. He took four wickets in the game, while played match-winning inning of 69 runs.
The third ODI of the series will be played on January 25th at Centurion.
