Pakistan wins 2nd test against New Zealand, Yasir bags 14 wickets

DUBAI: Pakistan won the second Test match against New Zealand by an innings and 16 runs to level the series 1-1.

New Zealand were dismissed for 312 in the second innings after putting up 90 in the first.

Yasir Shah picked by 14 wickets during the match, equaling Imran Khan’s record. Shah picked up 8 wickets in the first innings, following that up with six wickets in the second innings.

Batting first in the match, Pakistan scored 418 with Haris Sohail leading the way with 147 and Babar Azam scoring his maiden Test century.

New Zealand were forced to follow-on after superb bowling by Yasir, who dismissed them for a paltry 90 on Monday.

The Kiwis resumed their innings on 131-2 on Tuesday with half-centuries from Latham, Taylor and Nicholls. The team once against struggled with spin as Shah claimed six wickets and Hasan Ali picking up three as New Zealand remained 16 runs short of Pakistan’s first innings total.

For his performance, Yasir Shah was named man of the match. “This is my best performance and I have never spun the ball like this,” Yasir said.

Kiwi’s skipper Williamson said Pakistan played a perfect game. “The damage was done in the first session,” he stressed, adding that Pakistan played well according to the conditions.

Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed said his team’s comeback after the first Test match was astonishing. He praised the batsmen for the start they gave to Pakistan in this match.

“One of the best spells I have ever seen,” Sarfraz said about Yasir Shah’s bowling.
