PIA and private airlines double domestic fares

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) doubled its fares ahead of Eid-ul-Azha from today, the sources in the airlines said. However, it is also learnt that private airlines in the country also enhanced up to 100% to 114% per cent from Karachi to Lahore and Karachi to Islamabad.

Earlier, the airlines were charging Rs 7,000 fare from their passengers travelling from Karachi to Islamabad and Lahore. The domestic airlines cut the fares for domestic flights owing to the COVID-19 in Pakistan.

The sources claimed that the fares of the domestic flights have now been enhanced up to 114 percent just 10 days ahead of the Eid-ul Azha. The one-side ticket of airlines from Karachi to Lahore would be charged at Rs 13,000 while return ticket would be Rs 25,000 for flights traveling between Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

The sources said that the hike has been witnessed nearly a month after PIA’s announcement to reduce its fares for domestic flights by 40 percent on June 12.

According to PIA spokesperson, the national flag carrier has introduced special discounted rates for domestic flights during summer vacations.

The PIA spokesperson said that reduced fares have been introduced by the national carrier for flights from Karachi to Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar.

The one-side fare from Karachi to Islamabad, Karachi to Lahore, and Karachi to Peshawar was reduced to Rs 6,950, but now the airlines increased the fares again.

According to the PIA spokesperson, the new fares will come into effect immediately.
