PTI govt files reference against Asif Zardari in Sindh ECP
1 min readKARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Sindh accepted on Thursday the PTI’s reference for the disqualification of former president Asif Ali Zardari as an MNA.
The ECP officials initially declined to receive the PTI’s reference on technical grounds and told MPA Khurram Sher Zaman, who had been given the responsibility of filing the reference against Zardari, to approach the ECP’s Islamabad office.
Later, the ECP Sindh accepted the reference and told the PTI lawmaker that they would forward the reference to their Islamabad office themselves.
Talking to the media after visiting the ECP office, Sher Zaman said that they have found some documents against Zardari and the former president will have to prove the allegations against him are false.
On November 19, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that his party would file a reference in the ECP seeking the disqualification of Zardari.
“Zardari owns an apartment in the US,” he had said. “It is mandatory to declare all your assets under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution,” he said.
