Shah Mehmood Qureshi says Kashmir belongs to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday said according to fundamental canons of demarcation of boundary line between Pakistan and India at the time of partition Kashmir was not part of India.
“It was evidently decided that Muslim majority areas would become part of Pakistan. Insha Allah! Kashmir will one day become Pakistan,” he said while addressing a seminar on the Kashmir conflict at the National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad.
He said the NPC was a fort of struggle for Kashmir. “Even if some expedience impeded it, the club kept calling for resolution of the Kashmir issue.”
Qureshi appreciated the roles of former Jamat-e-Islami chief late Qazi Hussain Ahmed and late Nawabzada Nasrullah. He also thanked the media for encouragement over his speech at the United Nations.
He said the nation was united on this matter, above any political difference. Kashmir was central point of our foreign policy, he added.
“We had quite an effective session at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding Kashmir. Foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan also had an effective stance on this issue,” he said.
The foreign minister said we needed to make the world realise the graveness of the Kashmir conflict. “We have had two (full-fledged) wars on this.”
He said Pakistan wanted relations of a good neighbour with India, however the basic barrier in achieving this task was the Kashmir conflict. He said sans redressal of this issue the bilateral ties would remain tense.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said 0.7 million Indian occupational force’s barbarism in Kashmir negated their national stance.
“Why do you need special laws? Violations of human rights under Armed Forces Special Powers Act would not have been made if it is India’s territory,” he said.
