Three attackers, two policemen killed in armed attack near Chinese Consulate

KARACHI: Three terrorists, who came to attack the Chinese Consulate in Karachi, have been killed by the police during an encounter, while two policemen were martyred and a security guard received critical injuries. The police said that the terrorists cannot enter in to the compound of the Consulate.

Police have recovered a jacket, some grenades from their position and recovered a vehicle, the police and Rangers officers claimed.

According to the initial details, three terrorists reached the Chinese Consulate on private vehicles and tried to enter into the compound of the building, but the police deputed outside the Consulate stopped them and terrorist opened fire and threw hand-grenades on them, while the other policemen present on the spot fired on terrorists as a result they killed. The terrorists want to attack on the Consulate office, the Karachi police chief said.

“Our police have failed the terrorists attack as the terrorist could not enter into the compound,” Amir Shaikh Karachi Police Chief said on a private TV channel. He said all the staff members of Chinese Consulate are safe and the situation is under control.

Now, the Pakistan Rangers have taken control of the area and are investigating it.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a press conference in Islamabad said all staff members of the Chinese consulate remained safe in the attack.
“Three attackers were killed,” the foreign minister said. “It was a cowardly attempt by terrorists,” he added.
“The matter is under control and the area has been cleared,” Qureshi said.
Two policemen were martyred and a security guard injured in an attack outside the Chinese consulate in Karachi’s Clifton Block-4 on Friday morning.
