LHC grants bail to Nawaz Sharif in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case
1 min readLAHORE: A two-member bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) allowed the bail application of former Prime Minister, Mohammad Nawaz Sharif in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case on medical grounds.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi headed the bench and heard the bail plea of Nawaz Sharif.
However, the former Prime Minister would not be released as he is already facing conviction in corruption reference.
Earlier, doctors determined the exact cause of the drastic drop in the platelet count of Nawaz Sharif and said that treatment for the affliction is possible in Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif is suffering in multiple diseases including the heart, diabetic problems.
Renowned hematologist and bone-marrow transplant expert Dr Tahir Sultan Shamsi has confirmed that the former premier does not have bone cancer, but rather acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).
In another case, the same court asked the NAB to submit its reply in Maryam Nawaz’s bail application on next Monday.
The three-time former prime minister is serving a seven-year jail sentence after being convicted in a Al Aziza corruption case last year. He remains under investigation in another Chaudhry Sugar Mills corruption case, while a sentence in a third case was suspended in September. He had denied all charges.
