Mother of infant ‘Sidra’ killed in the name of honour, Police claims

KARACHI: Sidra, who was a mother of an infant got shot injury in Karachi Surjani area on Thursday, died in the hospital and police claimed that she was shot by her relative on the name of honour.

She belonged to Faisalabad and living in Sector 5-B Surjani Town. Two unidentified assailants opened fired on her as a result she got injured and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

SHO Iftikhar Ahmed Qureshi, while speaking to media, said that the 33-year-old and her husband had contracted a freewill marriage in Faislabad nearly four years ago.  He added that the couple was living in Karachi with their eight-month-old daughter.

Police said that Sidra’s husband, Nasir, was at work when the incident took place. The official also said that the family had initially reported that the 33-year-old was killed upon resisting a mugging or was hit by a stray bullet.

Later, police after conducting their initial investigation believe that the women was murdered in the name of honour. The husband of the woman claimed that his in-laws, especially his brother-in-laws, may have been behind the killing as they were against their marriage.

Police head of the area said that an 18-year-old was also injured when the suspects fired on the crowd which had gathered outside the victim house after hearing the gunshots. The victim was identified as Nabeel and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
