NAB chief orders probe against SECP Policy Board chairman Khalid Mirza
1 min readISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (R) Javed Iqbal has taken notice of complaints against chairman Policy Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) alleging misuse of rules and authority in appointments.
Justice (R) Javed directed the director general NAB Rawalpindi to probe the complaints. In a recent interview with a local TV channel, Chairman Policy Board SECP Khalid Mirza said the SECP staff was not ready to work for fear of being caught by the NAB.
Taking notice, the NAB spokesman in a statement disagreed with Mirza’s assertion and said under the law he did not have the authority to give such an interview. He said Khalid Mirza intentionally influenced the ongoing investigations against the SECP.
The NAB spokesman stated that the NAB was working to eradicate corruption and recover the looted money of the people of Pakistan, which was appreciated by reputed international institutions in their reports. He said the NAB appreciated all the entire staff of the SECP and questioned only those officials who were involved in corrupt practices and misuse of authority to help the corrupt.
He said Khalid Mirza in his interview also admitted that wrong appointments had affected the functioning of SECP. “Khalid Mirza, being the chairman of Policy board of the SECP, should have taken steps to improve the credibility of the SECP by taking the administration into confidence instead of hurling the allegations,” he said.
