OGDC Announces Bobi-11 Oil, Gas Discovery
KARACHI: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced oil and gas discovery at Bobi Oil Field in Sanghar Sindh with the newly drilled Bobi-11 well showing promising production potential.
According to the company, the Bobi-11 well has the potential to produce around 1,000 barrels per day of condensate and 1.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of natural gas. The development is expected to strengthen production prospects from the mature oil and gas field and support efforts to maximise output from existing assets. The company owned its 100 per cent operating shares.
OGDC said in an statement on Thursday that the latest success was achieved by leveraging geological and subsurface information obtained from the earlier Bobi Deep-1 discovery. The data and insights generated from the previous exploration activity helped improve understanding of the underground formations and contributed to the successful development of the Bobi-11 well, the company said.a
The ODGC added the latest achievement has further strengthened confidence in the hydrocarbon potential of the surrounding area, while also opening up opportunities for additional exploration and development activities at Bobi Oil Field.
The Bobi-11 development is part of OGDC’s broader strategy of using advanced technology, subsurface data and multidisciplinary expertise to unlock additional production from its existing portfolio. The company is focusing on enhancing recovery from mature fields and extending their productive life rather than relying solely on new exploration discoveries.
OGDC said the successful development demonstrates its ability to translate subsurface knowledge and technological capabilities into tangible production opportunities. By optimising existing assets, the company aims to improve production efficiency, enhance returns and create sustainable value for its stakeholders.
The development could also contribute to Pakistan’s efforts to increase indigenous oil and gas production. Higher domestic production has the potential to reduce the country’s dependence on imported energy and help improve energy security by meeting a greater share of local demand through domestic resources.
The company said the success of Bobi-11 reinforces its commitment to optimising production and pursuing high-potential opportunities across its asset base. OGDC is continuing to evaluate additional prospects and development opportunities with the objective of increasing recoverable reserves and improving output from its producing fields.
The Bobi Oil Field remains an important part of OGDC’s production portfolio, and the successful drilling of Bobi-11 provides fresh momentum for its continued development. The company expects the latest achievement to support further work aimed at identifying and developing additional hydrocarbon resources in the area.
OGDC said successes such as Bobi-11 demonstrate the value of combining technical expertise, modern technology and detailed subsurface understanding to maximise the potential of existing oil and gas assets. The development comes as Pakistan continues to seek ways to increase domestic energy supplies, improve the efficiency of its existing producing fields and reduce the financial burden associated with energy imports. The additional oil and gas production potential from Bobi-11 is therefore expected to provide support to the country’s broader objective of strengthening indigenous energy production and improving long-term energy security.
