Romania Ambassador celebrates ‘Taking Over the Presidency of EU Council’ in Karachi

KARACHI: The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Mr. Nicolae Goia Monday celebrated ‘Romania’s taking over the Presidency of the European Union (EU) Council’ at a local hotel in Karachi.

Addressing the dignitaries, the Romanian Ambassador said that our country took the presidency of the EU Council first time and we want to keep the United Kingdom (UK) with the European Union.

“We have very little hope that UK will remain part of the EU in future and we are very sad on it as the UK is very important country in terms of science, culture and technology,” Mr Goia said.

In a very crucial time for us, Romania has taken leadership of the EU Council for six months and we have to deal issues like Brixit, he said adding that the UK is very important country for us and other European countries.

Mr Goia said, “we can contribute for the EU countries more and our moto is to make the EU countries more stronger and more powerful.”

Speaking on the occasion, honorary Council General of Romania in Karachi Sindh, Tariq Saud said that there are great opportunities of trade including import and export for the businessmen of both the countries. The total trade of Pakistan and Romania stood at $700 million annually.

He said that trade missions of both countries can visit each other countries and explore the opportunities to boost their businesses. He said the construction industry is booming in Romania and there is demand for construction materials which the Romanian businessmen are importing from all over the world.

Romania is the main hub of European market and Pakistani business community can import and export from Romania.

Pakistan is also a developing country, he said the maga projects like power plants, desalinating plants, hospitality industry and water and sewerage plants are being built here and he urged the Romanian businessmen to invest in Pakistan.

He further informed that two huge ships are being built in Romanian shipyard which to be delivered to Pakistan Navy soon.

On the occasion, Romania Ambassador Nicolae Goia cut the celebrating cake with Pakistani businessmen Ikhtiar Baig, Zubair Motiwala, Majid Aziz and other representatives of KCCI and FPCCI.
