KARACHI: The All Pakistan Restaurant Association (APRA) continued its second day of protests against the wishes of food delivery company Food Panda and all the restaurants blocked Food Panda from their app and once again made it clear that if the wishes Food pandas will be boycotted across the country in the second phase after Karachi, said a press release.
Oprah chairman Naeem Siddiqui has also approached the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) to end Food Panda’s monopoly, requesting that the Competition Commission take note of Oprah’s complaint to a specific company. Ensure the end of monopolies and play its part in providing opportunities on an equal footing to do business independently.
In a letter to the CCP, the Director General of Policy pointed out that the members had complained that the Food Panda Delivery Agreement prohibits restaurants from vendor delivery and established a monopoly on food pandas. Restaurants that take delivery services should not hire any other delivery company which is in flagrant violation of the rules laid down by the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
Naseem Siddiqui further said in the letter that due to Food Panda’s monopoly, the survival of new companies is in jeopardy as Food Panda stops providing services to restaurants that hire another delivery company. Food pandas should be prevented from forcing restaurants to make such deals and steps should be taken to provide free business opportunities so that an atmosphere of competition is established and consumers can access the services of their choice and quality.
