Supreme Court imposes fine of Rs 100mn on DG Khan Cement
1 min readLAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 100 million including fine of Rs 20 million for using illegally land water in DG Khan Cement factory which owned by prominent businessman Mian Mansha of Punjab. The court also directed the company’s Directors to submit this amount in the Supreme Court Dam Fund.
The court directed the cement factory to deposit Rs 80 million of the cost of water and Rs 20 million as fine in the SC dam fund.
The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, resumed the hearing of a case regarding the dried up pond of Katas Raj Temple due to massive commercial water utilisation by factories located in Kallar Kahar, Punjab.
The Supreme Court directed the cement factories not to use land water for the factories. The land water can only be used for the factory workers.
Earlier, the bench also made it clear that on the input of the Punjab Anti-Corruption Department, criminal proceedings against DG Khan Cement CEO Muhammad Raza Mansha, son of business tycoon Mian Mansha, and the Bestway Cement CEO had been quashed; however, they would face civil liabilities.
After conducting several trials, the Supreme Court had formed an inspection committee to determine the veracity of the claims made by two cement factories – DG Khan Cement and Bestway Cement – located around Katas Raj Temple over water utilisation.
