Supreme Court Orders to Shift Imran Khan to Shifa Hospital

Supreme Court Orders

The Supreme Court Tuesday ordered that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.

The court issued the directives while hearing a case concerning the former prime minister’s health and medical care.

According to the court’s order, Imran Khan should be transferred to the hospital to ensure that he receives the necessary medical treatment and facilities.

Further details regarding the court’s order and Imran Khan’s medical condition are awaited.

According to the reports, the Supreme Court has ordered the immediate transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.

The court directed that Imran Khan be shifted to the hospital on Tuesday and remain there until the next hearing, which has been adjourned until September 16.

The court also ordered that doctors Faisal Sultan and Uzma Khan accompany Imran Khan during his stay at the hospital.

The Supreme Court further directed that Imran Khan’s family be allowed to meet him once a week. The court also restrained PTI from politicising his medical treatment.

The court also directed PTI to ensure that no rallies or demonstrations are held outside the hospital.

During the hearing, Justice Shahid Waheed questioned which sister of Imran Khan should be allowed to meet him. PTI lawyer Uzair Bhandari argued that Uzma Khan, who is a doctor, should be allowed to meet him.

The federal government, however, objected to the order, with Additional Attorney General stating that the government had not even been issued a notice before the direction for Imran Khan’s transfer was passed. The Supreme Court made the government’s objection part of its order.

The Additional Attorney General objected that no notice had been issued to the government regarding Uzma Khan’s application.

Justice Naeem Afghan observed that the court would also consider the government’s position, while Justice Shahid Waheed questioned why PTI wanted Imran Khan to be shifted specifically to a private hospital.

Uzair Bhandari said Imran Khan was often taken to PIMS Hospital for treatment. Justice Shahid Waheed then asked who would bear the expenses of treatment at a private hospital.

The lawyer representing Uzma Khan said the expenses would be paid by them.

The court also raised concerns about the confidentiality of Imran Khan’s medical reports and asked who would guarantee that the reports would not be made public or used for political purposes.

PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja assured the court that the medical report would not be used for political purposes, saying that the report was a matter between the doctors, Imran Khan and his family.

The Supreme Court subsequently adjourned further proceedings until September 16.

The former cricket star was removed as prime minister in April 2022 following a parliamentary vote of no-confidence.
