Chief Justice PHC Waqar Seth dies of coronavirus
Waqar Seth was the first judge who sentences military dictator in high treason case
PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Waqar Ahmed Seth, who was contracted with coronavirus few days ago, died today in a Islamabad hospital, spokesman of the PHC said here on Thursday.
Waqar Seth was hospitalized a week back with coronavirus-related complications and was undergoing treatment at Kalsoom International Hospital in Islamabad, he said
This was the first time in Pakistan’s history that a military dictator was convicted for high treason.
Waqar Ahmed Seth was born on 16 March 1961 was a Pakistani jurist who has been the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court since 28 June 2018.
He also presided the special court which heard the high treason case against Pervez Musharraf and one of the two judges on a three judge panel who convicted Musharraf for this crime and sentenced him to death.
Born in Dera Ismail Khan on March 16, 1961, he received his early education from Cantonment Public School, Peshawar
Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday to highlight that he had legitimate expectancy to be elevated to fill the recently vacated post in the SC.
“The petitioner has a lawful right to be considered for the appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the available vacancy that has occurred on the retirement of Justice Faisal Arab on Nov 4,” a three-page application filed before the court on Tuesday stated.

Justice Seth had previously petitioned the SC on June 11 questioning the elevation of three judges in the SC — Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin, Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Sayyed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi — and stating that he was superseded three times in this elevation to the SC without a valid reason or justification.
On last Tuesday, he said he was the senior most chief justice amongst all the high court chief justices, and a vacancy has also occurred since the retirement of Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan in May 2018.
