Responsible Journalism Vital for Social Progress: Sindh Governor

KARACHI: Newly appointed Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has emphasized that free, responsible, and professional journalism plays a vital role in the social development, stability, and progress of any society.

He said the media has a significant responsibility to create public awareness, promote national consciousness, and strengthen unity among citizens.

The Sindh Governor expressed these views during a meeting with directors of various media organizations at the Governor House in Karachi. The meeting focused on important issues related to journalism in Pakistan, the role of media in society, responsible reporting practices, and coverage of national affairs.

A delegation of senior media representatives attended the meeting, including Syed Turab Shah, Director of ABN News and Ausaf Group, Mudassar Alam, Director of Pakistan Today, and other prominent figures from the media industry. The participants discussed challenges faced by the journalism sector and the importance of maintaining professional standards while reporting on issues of public interest.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Nehal Hashmi said that the media serves as an important bridge between the state and the people. He added that an effective communication system between government institutions and the public helps build trust, improves understanding, and contributes to the strengthening of democratic values.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of the journalist community and acknowledged their crucial role in highlighting public issues, providing accurate information, and promoting national harmony. He stressed that journalists must continue to uphold the principles of fairness, accuracy, and responsibility while performing their duties.

Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi further stated that responsible journalism is not only a source of information but also a powerful tool for social awareness and positive change. He said that media organizations should work towards encouraging constructive discussions and promoting unity during challenging times.

During the meeting, Syed Turab Shah presented a bouquet to Governor Sindh Muhammad Nehal Hashmi. Members of the journalist delegation also congratulated the Governor on completing his pilgrimage and expressed their best wishes for his future responsibilities.

The Governor thanked the media representatives for their visit and reiterated his commitment to maintaining strong relations with the journalist community. He said that cooperation between the government and media is essential for addressing public concerns and supporting the overall development of Sindh and Pakistan.
