Pakistan improves rank in UN EGDI 2024

Pakistan has jumped 14 places in the UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2024. It was ranked on 136 globally from 150 in 2022.

Additionally, Pakistan’s position has also improved 18 places globally in the e-participation index. It ranked to 88 from 106 in the world.

Minister for State and Information Technology (IT) Shiza Fatima said, “this leap and the historic ranking of Pakistan reflects the government’s plans and programs and enhances the role of Pakistan’s digitalization as an effective and influential leader both the regional and global levels.

She thanks Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Ministry of IT and National IT Board for cooperating with the authority in journey of leadership and innovation towards a national economy based on innovation.

The UN report praised Pakistan’s significant development in the field of digital government, achieving improvement in the globe. In recent years, Pakistan has seen quality investments in the IT Sector.

The report further highlighted the Online Service Index (OSI) and the qualitative leap of Pakistan, positioning. Additionally, the maturity of digital government regulations, accessibility and sharing of open government data for citizens and business sectors were declared good steps.

Pakistan advanced by 88 places in e-participation and consultations directed at individuals and business sectors.

The EGDI report has published in every two years. It is one of the most important international indicators. The data reflects the impact of structural reforms on increasing productivity, enhancing efficiency, and improving the experience through the development of digital governments in UN member states.

The sub-indexes in the report serve as a fundamental reference for measuring government performance among all countries worldwide.
