3 min read

KARACHI: After an extravagantly elaborate display by Sana Safinaz, the glitz and glam continued on the second day of Fashion Pakistan Week Spring/Summer 2019. Eight designers put forward collections marking the start of the Spring/Summer season with colors, florals and extravagance. The event took place on Wednesday, March 13th at the grandly appointed Beach Luxury Hotel in Karachi.

Once again the red carpet hosted many well-known and high profile personalities, all dressed to perfection, prior to the start of the show. The glamorous evening began at the red carpet, where Physiogel, the official red carpet sponsor unveiled the new face of their brand, Ayesha Omer. She made a grand entrance through a gorgeously decked up purple and white floral arch that made for an Instagram worthy moment and chatted with Anoushey Ashraf, the host for the Physiogel booth.

The fashion powerhouse, Alkaram also made a big bang on the red carpet as the very graceful Ayeza Khan, who’s the face of the brand made an appearance wearing a head-turning blazing black couture gown designed exclusively by Ather Hafeez.

Not only that but the five uber chic Alkaram Influencers, Anushey Shahid, Alina of ThatKarachiGirl, Noore of Something Haute, Maha of Mashion and Maroosha a young beauty influencer, were also seen having a fabulous time mingling with the audience, wearing drop dead gorgeous and vibrantly playful colored custom-made AlKaram ensembles.

Generation opened the show with their ready-made pieces full of colors and patterns eluding the Spring/Summer feels. The collection named #NoNonsenseNighat emphasized the cultural uniqueness of local culture. Generation’s exuberant accessories and the easy breezy shapes was a nod to the summer months just round the corner.

Up next was Yasmeen Zaman’s Zeke whose bespoke ensembles catered to destination weddings and the wide range of outfits had colors and patterns inspired by Van Gogh and his world renowned starry starry night. The resort wear collection was beautifully draped and colours of turquoise, emerald and sea green dominated. Nauman Arfeen’s dusky denim collection Har Shakht Pe Ullu Betha Hai (An owl on every branch) had modern cuts and embroidered owl motifs funkily accessorized with retro shades and owl-printed blazers and also owl-printed pants.

The revelation of the evening was the emergence of Ideas Pret and Alkaram as fashion forward design houses. Ideas Pret was a sure short winner as the whole audience applauded the fiery collection that consisted of cool shades, jeweled embroidery and flowy ensembles that truly depicted Spring/Summer trends. A fusion of Victorian Glasshouses and Mughal Art was evidently prominent in their designs. AlKaram came back with a bang unveiling their new line MAK O Keefe inspired by the revolutionary artist, modernist and fearless visionary – Georgia O’ Keeve. Each ensemble was art on fabric and abstract prints were seen ruling the runway.

Obaid Sheikh’s Lost in Forest took everyone on a journey through the woods. The entire line had shades of green and brown, the colors of the forest. This was followed by a mystical experience depicted through gorgeous Boheme by Kanwal ensembles. The garments were beautifully accessorized, and was a riot of colour against a pale palette. Ending the night of great designs and beautiful colors, Sania Maskatiya’s Luxe Evening Wear collection stole the spotlight. The black and ivory collection that debuted at New York Fashion Week last month, was high on cut and craft with sleek silhouettes and signature Sania Maskatiya fashion forward flair.

Celebrity showstoppers for some of the collections added further oomph to the evening; Hira Tareen walked for Yasmin Zaman in a stunning starry blue gown, the dapper Faisal Qureshi strutted for Nauman Arfeen, Noor Khan stunned all in a gorgeous MAK by Alkaram outfit, Fahad Mirza walked for Obaid Sheikh and Sanam Saeed stole the show for Boheme by Kanwal looking effortlessly beautiful in a gold-ivory traditional and elaborate ensemble.

The evening came to a close on a high note as CEO Fashion Pakistan Council Feri Rewanian stated, “Every time we do Fashion Pakistan Week, our aim is to go bigger and better than the previous shows. And this year, with many changes to the overall structure, from venue to pret and retails making their way onto the ramp and different makeup partners, it was a fashion celebration in all its entirety. With the second day to an end, expect the same vigour and glam tomorrow.”
