Japanese Deputy Consul General and UNDP officials visited Master Motors

KARACHI: UNDP’s Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) is playing a key role in empowering youth by equipping them with technical skills and the contribution of Master Motors Corporation Limited (MMCL) to this program is commendable.

This was stated by the Deputy Consul General of Japan to Pakistan, Katsunori Ashida, during his visit to the MMCL plant in Karachi.

He appreciated the successful completion of trainee program under the UNDP’s Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP). “We are happy to be part of this program which is enabling youth to earn their livelihood in a dignified manner,” said the Deputy Consul General.

The Youth Empowerment Program is chaperoned by UNDP and funded by USAid and the Government of Japan. The program aims to bring employable skills and employment to the unemployed and unskilled youth. UNDP authorized training institute, TUSDEC, provided seasoned and experienced trainers to conduct both classroom and on-job training for the Apprentices.

Khalid Nasir, Group GM HR, MMCL briefed the Deputy Consul General on the program. He said that after basic screening, 80 youth, from all districts of Karachi, were enrolled in the program as Trainees in the functions of Assembly, Weld, Paint and Quality and the passing out ratio is 100%.

“Master Motors, understanding the need, responded to the program with the objective to train the youth on technical skills at its assembly plant located at Port Bin Qasim Industrial Estate,” said CEO Master Motors Limited Danial Malik and added that MMCL is proud to be the only company in the automotive sector to have joined this YEP programme.

“All the trainees will be retained by the Company and will be made part of its regular workforce,” he added.

“This symbolizes MMCL’s commitment to improve the quality of human resources in Pakistan and to be a contributor in gainful employment. Seeing the skill level acquired by the trainees, they all will be given opportunity to in the company’s upcoming assembly plant that has been erected as a result of Joint Venture between Changan Motors China and Master Motors and will be assembling passenger cars from April 2019 onwards,” said Danial.

The Deputy Consul General of Japan to Pakistan was accompanied by Nozomu Aoki, Economic Advisor, Saadia Qamar and Economic dept assistant. Also present on the occasion were officials of MMCL and UNDP including Akbar Khan Durrani, Program Manager UNDP-YEP, Moin Haider Zaidi, Project Manager, YEP and Danish Atiq, Project Manager, TUSDEC.
