AION ES Could Be Pakistan’s Next Electric Sedan
KARACHI: The AION ES has already made an appearance in Pakistan, giving local automotive enthusiasts an early look at GAC’s electric sedan as the company prepares to reveal more details about its potential launch and pricing.
First spotted in Pakistan in May, the AION ES attracted attention with its futuristic exterior design, spacious cabin and all-electric powertrain. With expectations building around its official price, the sedan could emerge as a new contender in Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle market.
The AION ES is an electric sedan produced by GAC AION, the electric-vehicle subsidiary and brand of China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC), a Pakistani automobile manufacturer and distributor, has inked an exclusive partnership agreement with China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC)
The AION ES features a sleek, starship-inspired exterior with modern lighting elements and a streamlined silhouette. Its interior is designed to offer a spacious and contemporary environment, focusing on comfort and practicality for everyday driving.
The electric sedan is powered by a 53.7 kWh battery, with a claimed driving range of up to 442 kilometres under the NEDC testing cycle and around 360 kilometres under the WLTP cycle. The vehicle also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes.
One of the key technologies associated with the AION ES is GAC’s patented Magazine Battery 2.0 system. The technology is designed to enhance battery safety and protection, with the battery engineered to resist fire and water. GAC has also highlighted its durability through rigorous testing, including gunshot testing.
The expected pricing announcement comes at a significant time for Pakistan’s automotive industry. Rising fuel prices, increasing interest in solar energy and growing awareness of electric mobility are encouraging more consumers to explore alternatives to conventional petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles.
The AION ES could therefore provide Pakistani buyers with another option in the electric sedan segment, combining a conventional sedan format with modern EV technology and fast-charging capability.
However, its eventual success in Pakistan will largely depend on its official price, charging infrastructure, after-sales support and overall value compared with other electric vehicles available in the market.
With the vehicle already attracting attention locally, the upcoming price announcement by GAC Pakistan is expected to determine how competitively the AION ES will be positioned in the country’s rapidly evolving EV market.
