Ambassador Wells reaffirms goal for mutually beneficial Pak-US relations

ISLAMABAD: Alice Wells, the United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, reaffirmed the goal expressed by both Secretary Mike Pompeo and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to build a mutually-beneficial relationship based on trust during her visit to Pakistan.

Alice Wells, on Wednesday left for the United after States after a two-day visit to Pakistan in which she met officials of the Finance and Foreign ministries.

According to a press release by the US Embassy in Pakistan, the US envoy who arrived in Pakistan on November 6 to review key items on the bilateral agenda between the countries, underscored the importance of all actors in the region takings steps to advance security, stability and cooperation in South Asia.

She also welcomed the commitment from Pakistani officials to work towards the goal, the press release added.

During her visit, the US envoy and Pakistani officials also discussed the upcoming Geneva Conference on Afghanistan and joint efforts to advance the Afghan peace process.

Further, Ambassador Wells met with Minister of Finance Asad Umar, senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior, and Director General Military Operations Nauman Zakria, during her visit to Islamabad.

The ambassador also discussed opportunities to build business and economic ties between the United States and Pakistan and explored other areas for growth in the bilateral relationship.

Moreover, Wells also met with think tank representatives, regional security experts, and members of civil society and highlighted the United States commitment to work collaboratively to advance the shared goals of the American and Pakistani people.
