1 min read

Four people have been arrested and several bombs found following shootings at two mosques in Christchurch that have left as many as 30 feared dead.

According to New Zealand media, nine people have been confirmed dead at the spot and as many as 30 are feared dead at the Masjid Al Noor on Deans Ave and the Linwood Masjid on Linwood Ave. Armed police have also been seen at Papanui High School.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said local police had committed “some absolutely acts of bravery” to arrest the four people in Christchurch. Officers would have immediate access to firearms, he said.

“We are not aware of other people, but we cannot assumed there are not others at large.”

Several improvised explosive devices had been in several vehicles around the city. NZ Defence Force staff had immobilised them, Bush said.
