Explosion at Old Police Lines in Kohat Kills 16, Injures 57
KOHAT: At least six terrorists, including a suicide bomber and a sniper, have been killed during an attack on the Old Police Lines in Kohat, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said.
According to report, at least sixteen people are martyred and injuring 57 namazies during the Juma prayers.
According to the KP police chief, seven terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Kohat Police Lines. Police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel confronted the attackers and killed the sniper at the initial stage of the operation.
The IG said six terrorists, including the suicide bomber and sniper, had been killed so far. He added that the clearance operation against the terrorists had entered its final stages. The further investigation is going on.
According to initial reports, an explosion was heard at the old Police Lines area in Kohat. There were reports of killing sixteen people and injuring 57 others.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) office is also reached the old Police Lines premises. Rescue 1122 said 14 ambulances and more than 40 personnel were taking part in the rescue operation at the site. Roads leading to the old Police Lines have been closed as a precautionary measure.
Rescue teams reached the site and launched relief and rescue operations, according to Rescue officials. The injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals by ambulance for medical treatment.
Police said 20 injured people have so far been shifted to nearby hospitals.
Rescue officials earlier said seven ambulances and more than 35 personnel were participating in the emergency response. The nature and cause of the explosion have not yet been determined, while further details are awaited.
According to securities agency, an explosion occurred near the Police Lines mosque in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday prayers, leaving several people martyred and injured.
Security forces reached the site following the blast and launched a search and rescue operation, the sources said adding the injured were immediately shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Kohat for medical treatment.
Treatment of the injured police personnel and civilians is currently underway at CMH Kohat, the sources claimed. Further details regarding the number of casualties and the nature of the explosion are awaited.
Interior Minister Condemns Kohat Attack
Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the explosion near the old Police Lines in Kohat and expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives.
Naqvi extended his condolences and sympathies to the families of those killed, saying the government stood with the bereaved families in their hour of grief.
“Cowardly actions by the outcasts cannot weaken the nation’s firm resolve,” the interior minister said.
