ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court has issued show cause notices to all people including Chief Editor Jang Group Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman, Ansar Abbasi, Editor ‘The News’ Amir Ghori and others involved in publishing news regarding order to keep ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter in jail before the elections.
The IHC’s Chief Justice Athar Minallah adjourned the matter for November 26. The court orders Chief Editor Jang Group Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman, editor The News Amir Ghori, investigating reporting head Ansar Abbasi and others directed to reply till Nov 26.
Appearing before the court, Ansar Abbasi said that it was my story and published this story for the honor of Judiciary. Protecting Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman he said that it was my story and He (Chief Editor) is not part of the story. He requested the court for enquiry of this matter as it is very important matter.
Former Chief Justice Gilgit Baltistan (GB) could not appear before the court owing to the death of his brother, his son informed the court. Chief Editor Jang group Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman and Editor The News were present in the court.
“This affidavit has scandalized the entire High Court and it is very serious matter,” said Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan before the court.
On last Monday, IHC served contempt of court notice to the former Chief Justice Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Rana Shamim over his allegations against the ex-CJP Saqib Nisar. Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan, Chief Editor Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman, editor The News Amir Ghori and Ansar Abbasi and others were directed to appearing before the court at 10am on Tuesday.
Former CJ GB had claimed former CJP Saqib Nisar had asked a high court judge to keep Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif in jail till the 2018 general elections.
The CJ IHC had taken notice of the matter after the name of a sitting HC judge also named in the controversy that took place after allegations of the former CJ GB.
At the outset of the hearing, the CJ IHC said that such reporting from the media house can create problems and added that the IHC always upheld the freedom of speech.
The former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice retired Saqib Nisar termed the claims of ex-CJ GB as a blatant lie.
Exclusively talking to a media group, the former top judge said, “Rana Shamim asked me for extension of his tenure as CJ GB, which I didn’t approve.” Nisar said Rana Shamim complained once against not giving him an extension.
Ex-chief justice (CJ) Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Supreme Court Rana Shamim has said that he stands by his statement against Pakistan’s former top judge, Saqib Nisar.
“I stand by my statement which I gave to journalist Ansar Abbasi against former CJP Justice retired Saqib Nisar,” ex-CJ GB Rana Shamim said while exclusively talking to ARY News.
Reacting to the demand for an extension by him, Rana Shamim said the then CJP Sadiq Nisar did not have the right to extend my services.
The Supreme Courts of GB and AJK are not subordinates of SCP, he added.
