Islamabad Appellate Tribunal Rejects K-Electric Tariff Appeal
ISLAMABAD: The Appellate Tribunal in Islamabad has rejected an appeal filed by K-Electric in a tariff-related case, maintaining the tariff at Rs32.37 per unit.
The tribunal issued its decision after a delay of around 11 months, rejecting K-Electric’s request for a change in the applicable tariff.
According to KE sources, the tribunal dismissed K-Electric’s appeal on technical grounds and upheld the existing tariff of Rs32.37 per unit. KE sources said the company was dissatisfied with the decision and would challenge the tribunal’s ruling before a higher court.
The sources said the appeal was rejected on technical grounds rather than on the merits of the company’s position.
The sources further alleged that Karachi had consistently faced unfair treatment in matters related to electricity tariffs, describing the latest tribunal decision as another example of what they termed discriminatory treatment of the city.
“If a fair tariff cannot be provided to Karachi, expensive LPG should not be imposed on us either,” the K-Electric sources said. The company’s position comes amid ongoing discussions over electricity tariffs, energy costs and the financial challenges facing the power sector. The tribunal’s decision means that the tariff of Rs32.37 per unit will remain unchanged unless the ruling is overturned or modified by a higher court. K-Electric is expected to pursue further legal proceedings against the decision, source claimed.
